This may be Lynsey Saunders’ first job working in a sheltered living scheme for older people, but she came to Rutherford House with plenty of experience in supported living.
Prior to starting at Rutherford, Lynsey worked for six years supporting people with learning disabilities in residential and supported living services, as well as providing respite support as well.
Seeking a new challenge and after the death of her grandfather “left a huge void in my life”, she applied for the job at Rutherford House and now wishes she had moved into older people’s support earlier in her career.
“I did love working with people with learning disabilities ,but I was working 12 hour shifts and with a husband and two children, I was seeking a better work/life balance,” she explains.
“I have been made to feel very welcome by the residents at Rutherford House and receive excellent support from my line manager Jayne, who is always at the other end of the phone, and from my fellow Independent Living Officer Hayley.
“It’s been nice being able to introduce new activities and to bring residents at both schemes together more often, and I am really happy to be working here at Rutherford.”
