Are you aware that DAMHA provides two sheltered housing schemes for older people – Rutherford House in Easington and Bulmer House in South Shields?
These schemes consist of self-contained apartments with communal facilities such as a shared lounge, laundry, and garden. They are ideal for people who still would like to live as an independent life as possible but perhaps need a little additional support.
Assistance is provided by onsite Independent Living Officers, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the schemes, such as organising activities and events.
In recent months, both Rutherford House and Bulmer House have been a hive of activity, with lots happening for residents and members of the community in general.
At Rutherford House, Lynsey Saunders, who took over as Independent Living Officer from Barbara Smith this year has been busy introducing new activities, including weekly arts and crafts which take place in a new art room and a movie club. This is in addition to long-standing events such as the weekly coffee morning which is so popular.
And at Bulmer House, Independent Living Officer Hayley Patterson has been just as busy. Most recently she helped organise a party – with bingo, prizes, and party food – for residents, with people from Rutherford House also in attendance. Youngsters from the local cadet force also popped in to help out on the day.
If you would like to find out more about living at either Rutherford House or Bulmer House please call or email using the details below. If you would like to be considered for a vacancy or just to have a look around please contact us.
