Residents from our Bulmer House sheltered housing scheme and aged miners homes in Marsden Road, South Shields, put their best foot forward in a sponsored walk to help raise funds to keep their seated exercise classes going.
In the Bulmer House lounge for the past couple of months we have had seated chair exercises and seated swan classes free of charge and hosted by a professional trainer. The seated swan class is currently being hosted by an ex-ballerina called Rebecca. The sessions have been put on by a local charity called Sense Ability Matters who work with people living with hearing and sight loss in the community. Through funding that they have they have put on these classes free of charge for the residents to enjoy.
They have enjoyed the classes so much that a resident from Marsden Road, Christine Reed, had an idea to do a sponsored walk to help raise money so that these classes can continue.
The residents set off from Bulmer House and did a couple of laps around the estate. Those that were able to walk further then walked down to the Bamburgh Pub on the Coast Road in South Shields and did a loop back up home. In total they raised an amazing £1,339. This should be enough to fund the classes until, the end of the year.
