DAMHA is in the process of presenting gift vouchers to 123 of its residents who are aged 90 and over – although due to the postal issues, they may not arrive until the new year.
As part of a yearly tradition, we present £25 gift vouchers to our oldest residents.
We contribute £10 to the vouchers and the rest is provided by The Almshouse Association, the support charity representing over 1,600 almshouses in the UK. DAMHA is the largest almshouse in the UK.
In total, this means £3,075 worth of vouchers will be handed out this year.
Among those receiving a voucher will be 90-year-old George Gibson, from Horden, who said: “I turned 90 in 2022 so this is the first time I will have received a voucher and I think it’s a very nice gesture.”
Paul Mullis, Chief Executive of DAMHA, said: “In these difficult times, we are very pleased to have been able to continue the tradition, with support from The Almshouse Association, of giving vouchers to our residents aged 90 and over, and we hope they enjoy spending them when they arrive.”
