Some early Christmas cheer was brought to over 120 nonagenarians who each received £25 from DAMHA and the Almshouse Association.
Every year, we present each resident who is aged 90 and over on the 25th December with Marks and Spencer gift voucher. This year, we presented 123 vouchers to our residents living across the North East. The Almshouse Association gives £15 and DAMHA adds £10, so in total £3,075 has been handed out.
Receiving her first voucher this year was 90-year-old Catherine Wilkinson, of Pelton Fell, Chester-le-Street.
She said: “It’s a very nice gesture and I am looking forward to spending my vouchers.”
Paul Mullis, Chief Executive of DAMHA, said: “Working in partnership with the Almshouse Association, we are pleased to have been able to continue this tradition of being able to provide a small gift to some our oldest residents at Christmas.”
