Crowgill Court opens at Esh Winning
A new million pound scheme at Crowgill Court, Esh Winning was opened on Wednesday, 11th June.
The new development consisting of 10 two-bedroom bungalows has been built on a site of former council houses and was opened by local man Mr Bob Heslop who also is well known for his role within the Mining & Banner Restoration Group.
The work, completed in September 2007, was carried out in partnership with Durham City Council and ISOS, Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association’s development partners. Able Construction of Felling built the bungalows and the consultants employed on the project were Lumsden Wood Partnership of Chester-le-Street (Employers Agent) and Brian Ashdown (Architects).
The total cost of the project was £1,035,000 partly funded by Social Housing grant from the Housing Corporation and a mortgage.
All of the homes have been built to mobility standards and have access to community alarm facilities if residents should require this. Facilities in the bungalows include gas central heating and high levels of energy efficiency plus Secure by Design Accreditation from Durham Constabulary.
At the opening ceremony, DAMHA President Bob Olaman said, “We are delighted with this new development which is a significant addition to our housing stock at a time when new housing availability is at a premium. We are also particularly pleased with the way in which our work with trusted partners is delivering great new properties for our residents”.
