Pitmatic in print
The book ‘Pitmatic: The dialect of the North-East Coalfield’ by Bill Griffiths, has been published by the Northumbria University Press.
The 250 page book, with its brilliant Durham Gala cover by local artist Ben Curtis combines dialect word lists with some historical/technical context and illustrative songs and stories, and will serve as a permanent record of the ‘Wor Language’ project. Author and ‘Wor Language’ co-ordinator Bill Griffith said, “We hope you have enjoyed the project, whether you took part or only read the results. Continued comment and input are certainly expected and welcome!”
The book costs £9.00. Or, if you can’t get it at your local bookshop, you can order it directly from Northumbria University Press (additional £2.50 P&P) - telephone 0191 227 4019.
