Resident involvement - Potential trustees wanted!
The Association has always regarded resident involvement as paramount. For over 20 years our Resident Representatives have attended the Resident Forums – in the early years it would have largely been a representative from the local aged miners homes committee or colliery, but latterly it has comprised mainly of residents elected by fellow residents from their street.
Several years ago, the Executive Committee also sought residents representatives to serve on its Housing & Development Sub Committee to ensure residents views were available when policies and performance were being considered and recommendations made to the Executive Committee.
A system of election of 3 resident representatives was introduced whereby the Residents Forum elected Elizabeth Hewitson (Horden), Una Mack (Witton Gilbert) and Audrey Selway (Lumley) to serve on the Housing & Development Sub Committee.
That term of office has now expired and the Executive Committee have now reviewed the method of election in light of a change in charity law which allows residents to serve as Trustees on the Executive Committee. Following this change of law 2 years ago, Elizabeth Hewitson and Una Mack accepted the Executive Committee’s invitation to become a Trustee. The Executive Committee have also recently agreed to recommend to the 2007 Annual General Meeting that they be re-elected for a further period of 4 years.
The Executive Committee would ideally like to see a 3rd resident become a trustee and are seeking nominations from any resident (not just resident representatives) who will in the first instance replace Audrey Selway on the Housing & Development Sub Committee, but will also be seen as the next resident to join the Executive Committee – when a suitable vacancy arises.
Would you be interested? If so then please telephone the office on Freephone 0800 0432642 and ask for an application form.
All applications will be considered and interviews may take place, and then the Executive Committee will invite the successful resident to join the Housing & Development Sub Committee, receive induction and ongoing training and eventually join the Executive Committee as a Trustee when a suitable vacancy arises.
We look forward to hearing from you!
