The three sisters, from Left to right: Isobella, Lily and Mary
Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters...
When Lily Davies (78) moved into her home in Orchid Street, Blackhall in 1999, she didn’t dream that two more of her sisters would also be living in DAMHA bungalows seven years later.
Within three months of each other, Lily’s sisters Isobella and Mary Catherine moved into their bungalows. Isobella Holmes (70) moved into her bungalow in St Mary’s Court, Horden in August 2006 and Mary Catherine Darwin moved into hers in Blackhall in October 2006. Sadly, their sister Sarah Topping (75) who died two months ago was also on the list for a new bungalow. Mary said “We really miss Sarah and it would have been quite something if all four of us were living in DAMHA bungalows”.
The sisters were all born and bred in Easington. They married local lads and love living in the area and near to each other. “We often pop in to see each other and make sure that we get together at least once a week and we always have a good laugh”, said Mary. And as far as the bungalows are concerned, Mary’s husband Tommy said, “it just suits us down to the ground”.
