Silver surfers at Langley House
Over 12 months ago, our Langley House care home applied for a grant to help get our residents connected on the information superhighway.
After much form filling we were delighted to receive £10,000 from the ‘Get Connected’ fund, which is operated by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).
The aim of the grant is to supply computers and equipment for service users to be connected to their friends and families as well as pursuing their interests and hobbies. The equipment is recommended for people who experience conditions such as arthritis and designed for easy use and is user friendly.
Included in the grant were training and support so everything was up and running in no time.
One service user, Tilly Hutton, has a grandson in Tasmania so at the grand age of 97 she now speaks to him via Skype once a week.
Another user, Alan Collier, is in email contact with his son in New Zealand and another resident, George Mills, has been able to exchange photographs with a friend in another care home.
The funding has also allowed Langley House to buy a 100 inch projector and screen which has been fantastic.
Head of Home, Joy Atkinson, said “We are delighted with the funding and that so many of our residents are already using the equipment. It has given them a new lease of life.”
