Chip Pan Fires
Chip pans are one of the most common causes of fires. The best advice is to get rid of your chip pan altogether. If you must cook chips:
- Dry the food before you put it in hot oil.
- Never fill the pan more than one third full of oil.
- Never leave the pan unattended.
- If the oil starts to smoke, it’s too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
- Use a thermostatically controlled electric deep fat fryer. They can’t overheat!
- If the pan catches fire, do not attempt to put it out. Close the kitchen door and leave the home immediately. Alert anyone else in the property and get them out. Call the fire brigade at once - 999.
Better still buy oven or microwave chips.
