All eyes on London
Residents thoroughly enjoyed a break in London to attend a service in St. Paul's Cathedral and The Trooping of the Colour.
Our contingent of 45 residents travelled down by coach and stayed at The Kensington Close Hotel - some were even fit enough to enjoy the Hotel swimming pool before breakfast!
The following morning a Service of Thanksgiving for The Almshouse Association was attended in St. Paul's Cathedral. The Patron of the Almshouse Association - HRH The Prince of Wales, due to the death of The Duchess of Cornwall's father, Major Shand, was unable to attend, but a congregation of over 2000 from all over the country enjoyed the service and sermon delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the beautifully renovated Cathedral.
After a shopping trip to Harrods the coach toured London and some went for a flight on the London Eye.
Everyone was up early the next morning for the short journey to secure their places on The Mall, to watch the splendour of The Trooping of the Colour to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday in the burning sun.
After a light lunch the coach returned home - all tired and full of memories "a wonderful few days, and a most memorable time for us", Shiela and Derek Gray.
