Staff matters
Langley House continues to develop our staff team and have two new members: Valerie Facchini and Katherine Kelly.
Valerie first worked at Langley House in the 1990's before leaving to enhance her career, she has returned with a valuable set of skills. She now has her NVQ and has signed up to do a course in infection control as part of her continued professional development.
Katherine has come to us directly from college having gained her Health and Social Care Award - Katherine will be registered shortly to complete her Standard Induction Training.
Staff achievements include:
- Deborah Wild and Joy Atkinson have completed their NVQ4 Occupational Health and Safety
- Rose Dean, Amanda Davey, Deborah and Joy all completed their HACCP training as part of the recommended management system from the Food standard Agency 'Safer Food Better Business'
- Deborah will now be embarking on her last three units NVQ level 4 Management.
Joy Atkinson to chair DECHA
Joy Atkinson has been asked to chair the Durham Employers Care and Health Alliance (decha). decha is open to all care employers to assist with the training of staff - working closely with Social Services who have been generous to share new initiatives with the care sector through invitation to training sessions, enabling staff to gain knowledge for the betterment of care to service users. This enables managers to become aware and act promptly.
Events
There was the usual busy flurry of activity and fun events at Langley House In the run up to Christmas.
Our service users had great fun making cards and tags for their family and friends.
The local School of Dancing put on a great show featuring set pieces from ‘Joseph and His Technicolour Dream Coat’ on 2nd of December, and the performance was greatly enjoyed by all.
We had the customary afternoon of carols on 4th December when our Carol singers entertained us with Christmas music both traditional and new.
On 9th December we made our traditional trips to our local Churches together and gave a lovely rendition of our favourite carols.
Music was a continuous theme throughout Christmas starting with guest vocalist Brian Minto at our Christmas party on 11th December, On 15th December we had a return performance from the wonderful Pantastic, a group of young musicians playing pans, (steel drums), created a wonderful atmosphere for all present.
On 19th December, the Salvation Army presented a set of carols and a short service for the residents.
Christmas day was celebrated in the traditional way with turkey, trimmings and pork, pudding, mince pies and cake assisted by a good amount of suitable alcoholic drink to refresh the pallet.
