Go for it!
Winter fuel payments... Have you claimed yours yet?
Winter Fuel Payments are one off payments to help people aged 60 or over with winter heating bills. An amount of up to £200 is payable, or if you are aged 80 or over, up to £300.
To qualify this winter you must have been 60 or over in the week of 18-24 September 2006. Some people may not qualify, but most will.
Your payment should be automatic if:
- You were aged 60 or over in the qualifying week and receiving a benefit such as Pension Credit or State Retirement Pension; but not Housing or Council Tax benefits.
- You received a payment last Winter and your circumstances have not changed. If these have changed, tell the Winter Fuel Payment Helpline now.
If none of these apply, you will need to make a claim. You may already have been sent a claim form, but if not, ask for a claim form now.
Payments will be made before Christmas, but claims can be made until 30 March 2007.
For further information contact the Winter Fuel Payment Helpline on 0845 9 15 15 15 (0845 601 5613 for textphone users). Local call rates apply. They will provide information on eligibility, and claim forms for this or past years. If you are on the internet, contact the website at www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/winterfuels for details and a claim form.
