Wedding Anniversaries
From Blackpool with love

When Kenneth and Patricia Stanworth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there was only one place they wanted to go.
The couple, who live in Willow Court, Coxhoe, recently returned from a week in Blackpool where they stayed at the Metropole Hotel – the same place they went for their honeymoon.
Patricia said: “The hotel had changed quite a bit but it brought back lots of happy memories and we had a great week.”
Patricia and Kenneth, both aged 71, first met at The Rink dance hall in Spennymoor. They courted for three years before getting married in 1961. Before going to Blackpool they celebrated their golden wedding at Bowburn Hall with their family, including two daughters and three grand-children.
A day in the pub

Shirley and Peter McElvanney first met on a bus that was taking them to a work’s outing to Redcar.
The couple, who live in Stella, Gateshead, both worked for The Cooperative and once a year the company would organise a trip for its employees.
When they got to Redcar, sight-seeing was far from Shirley and Peter’s minds and they spent the whole day in the pub getting to know each other. After a three-year courtship they were married and the rest, as they say, is history.
Peter and Shirley recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary alongside their friends and family, which include two children, seven grand-children and one great-grandchild.
Explaining the success of their marriage Shirley said: “It’s all about making allowances and ensuring up make after you have had a row.”
Love over a cup of tea

Laurence and Mary Liddle met in a work’s canteen and over 60 years later they still very much in love.
The couple, who live in Flemming Field, Shotton Colliery, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Laurence and Mary met at the staff canteen at the colliery in Shotton. Mary worked in the canteen and Laurence was employed by the Coal Board as a painter and decorator.
They courted for a few years before marrying in 1951, and have been happy ever since. They have two children and three grand-children.
A Platinum wedding

Tom and Freda Raine have just celebrated a remarkable 70 years as a married couple.
Tom and Freda, who are aged 93 and 89 respectively, had a week long celebration to mark their platinum wedding anniversary.
The couple, who live in Murray Court, Chester-le-Street, met when they were both in the Salvation Army and say they have a lovely life together. They have three children, six grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren.
Freda said: “We had a lovely week of celebrations and it was nice to spend time with so many friends and family.”
